The Manager’s Role in Rethinking Budgeting

Date & Time: October 03, 2023, 08:30a.m. to 09:30a.m.
Location: Austin Convention Center, Meeting Room 16

In May this year, three government technology industry leaders—Balancing Act by Polco, Envisio, and Questica, a division of GTY Technology, recognized a unique opportunity to combine expertise and craft a blueprint for a modernized budgeting process.

Built upon the recommendations put forth by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) and the collaborative effort known as the Rethinking Budgeting initiative, which involved the International City/County Management Association (ICMA) and the National League of Cities (NCL), we wrote and presented a white paper, A Roadmap to Real Collaboration in Budgeting at the 2023 GFOA conference in Portland.

The next step in this groundbreaking initiative was to survey local governments across the nation on their current budgeting practices. Join us for an enlightening session presented by Balancing Act from Polco and the GFOA, where we’ll unveil fresh insights and emerging practices from the preliminary survey results and discuss what it takes for a city to revolutionize the budget process.
