We all have good intentions, but the reality is the vast majority of people struggle to accomplish goals. In a recent study by Dr. Michelle Rozen, only 6% of individuals follow -through and accomplish their goals, with 50% dropping off within the first six months.
Staggering as these numbers are, they align with one of the public sector’s biggest challenges: executing strategy.
If people struggle with accomplishing goals, then it follows that executing on an organizational strategic plan—reliant on dozens, or even hundreds, of individuals to get things done—would also be a challenge.
Strategic plans typically span years, involve multiple people across different departments, and it’s easy to get distracted with competing priorities. And we know that a struggling-or failing-to execute a strategic plan impacts a staggering 80% of public sector leaders and their organizations.
So how do we plan for success?
We need clear priorities, tangible action plans, sensible assignment of roles with responsibilities and timelines, and collaboration across departments.
The good news is that Envisio is built to help the public sector operationalize and execute their most important plans and projects. (Or, as our CRO Stefan likes to say: Envisio helps you get sh*t done!)
The even better news is that we’ve created a new Envisio Workspace area customized to each individual user so that every person working on your organization’s plan or projects can more easily stay organized and focused on the work that matters.
The new Envisio Workspace helps you:
- Easily see your organization’s active plans and projects and their overall progress
- Get a bird’s eye view across individual and departmental plans requiring updates
- Stay on top of updating plan and project progress so organizational progress reports and performance dashboards are always up to date
- Quickly access your most visited places, such as specific reports and dashboards, to get faster answers and work more efficiently.
Make meaningful impact in your community
Let’s walk through a typical use case of how Envisio Workspaces make it easy to get things done quickly.
As Assistant City Manager Bart, I log into Envisio, and can instantly see my workspace.
Under the My Starred section I look at the overall progress for our strategic plan. With 60% progress, it looks like we are slightly off our expected progress of 72% for this time period. However, I can see that only 18/24 updates are complete, and once we hit 100% update completion, our progress should be closer to what is expected.
It’s time to complete our progress updates! With the “Plans Pending Update” dropdown, I can switch between my Personal View and Department View. The Personal View helps me quickly complete my own updates, while the Department View showcases a team-wide overview, making it easy to send friendly reminders to others.
I own goals, strategies and initiatives within the strategic plan–and with the help of AI Assist, my updates have never been easier. As an organizational leader, AI Assist summarizes action-level updates to create my comprehensive strategy-level update in under two minutes. 👇
I can also see that the two projects I’m working on are recommending updates, and one of them is linked to our strategic plan. That means the progress update for that project impacts the strategic plan progress as well. I’ll go into those cards and quickly update my progress.
Show off your updates and progress
Now that our progress updates are complete I want to see how our department updates will be reflected in the Strategic Plan Progress Report. Under My Subscribed Reports I’m able to open the generated report in one click.
This report looks great. It provides a digestible snapshot of progress across each of the strategic priorities.
Finally, the exciting part–seeing how it looks on our public facing dashboard!
Public dashboard updates provide the transparency residents need to understand how leaders are making an impact in the community. These updates help all of us understand how the work we do directly impacts our communities quality of life.
When our work is tied to strategic priorities and we are making progress on those goals, we are more empowered in the work we do.
